“Shirley Valentine - Liverpool Everyman
”From the moment the lights come up on Katie Scott’s perfectly realised 1980s fitted kitchen, the audience is drawn into Shirley’s world. The set is sublime—repetitive and unchanging, much like her life, reinforcing the daily cycle she longs to break free from. Every detail feels deliberate, from the everyday essentials to the flickering kitchen light, seemingly symbolising the motions she goes through on a daily basis. This carefully constructed environment makes her eventual escape to a world bathed in golden sunshine all the more striking.””
“Around The World in 80 Days - Bolton Octagon
The real ingenuity on display is Katie Scott’s design. The stage initially appears as a deceptively plain map. Soon, panels are flipped out with the country’s names, and flags are planted that track the days. A ramp runs on from the entrances with lines like train tracks, illuminated in the colours of the countries’ flags. For the hot air balloon sequence, swings drop down from the ceiling and hang in the fog.”
“Work it Out - HOME
The audience enters for Eve Steele’s new play to see designer Katie Scott’s brilliantly detailed and authentic recreation of an activities room in a civic centre, from the planked wooden floor and the slightly mottled paintwork on the walls and tiles on the ceiling to the broken blinds at the windows and the mismatched plastic chairs.
